Folks,
1) It was an amusing thread, while it lasted. I didn't comment, but my first reaction was, "replace the Orion." Operator error had occured to me, but I saw no reason to pile on, either before or after the fact.
To the gentleman's credit, he owned up to the error publicly, learned from it, and grew. And shoot, all he had was a radio with an overly complex human interface. (a personal gripe of mine.)
My latest dumb stunt is considerably more painful to recall than mere operator error. Suffice it to say that breaking 2 ribs working on an antenna, with the tower laid over horizontal, and standing on a perfectly safe (but wet) flat roof requires extraordinary clumsiness, "muck boots" and the unfortunate placement of a toolbox. Every time there's a barometric change, I'm reminded of it.
2) Besides ease of assembly, general robustness and really good performance, there is another reason to contemplate a SteppIR: If you don't try something new, you're standing still. My next one will either be 4 els, or will have 40m on it.
Greetings (and sayonara) from Tokyo
