I have personally dealt with Mike Landa on three transactions for about
10,000 feet of 7/8 and 1 5/8 inch hardline. Those experiences have been completely
satisfactory. One irregularity was adjusted promptly and without dispute. I
would not hesitate to deal with him again.
One should recognize the nature of his business, buying and selling surplus
equipment, often in bulk, stored in many locations. He may not personally
inspect the surplus gear before it is shipped to a buyer, but depend on others to
confirm the condition (or quantity of cable on the reel).
In the one irregularity that I experienced, a new reel of cable was marked as
one quantity, but other documentation from the manufacturer on the new reel
confirmed a lower quantity.
To buy a used tower without inspecting it asking for trouble. A verbal or
written description has some subjectivity that may reflect the attitude of the
seller.
Buying from a surplus dealer is likely to have additional risk, because the
dealer may be relying solely on the descripton of the person he is buying from
for details on the condition of the surplus. In some cases the dealer does
not own the product, but makes the transaction (to buy and sell) at the same
time. Caution is needed.
First hand facts from people doing business with a tower dealer could be very
useful. Passing on rumors from others is probably not constructive.
