[TowerTalk] SteppIR Fiber glass Poles questions

Why is it a big deal if the poles begin to wear between 5 and ten years ? 
Why go through the bother of painting, etc. The cost for the poles is 
between 20 and 30 dollars. For a 4el Steppir $250 every 5-10 years. Seems 
reasonable.
