[TowerTalk] Home Depot 14 gauge wire

A large influence on what you pay for a roll of wire "today" is the current
price of copper. Copper prices fluctuate a good deal, and the copper cost
is the majority of the cost of the wire. Prices fluctuate over a 2:1 range
over several years, and have basically doubled in the last year. Even on a
month to month basis the price might fluctuate 10%. Copper is very high
right now (big picture of big trucks at the Phelps Dodge mine in AZ in the
paper yesterday)
Naturally, local conditions (transportation, markup, local taxes and wages)
also have an effect.
I know of several theatrical lighting manufacturers who buy copper futures
to allow them to quote stable prices for their cables.
