I bought two 500 foot spools of #14 THHN (solid) from Lowes and found the 
spools were about 6 to 7 feet short.   I also bought two spools from Home 
Depot, one was 1 foot long, the other about 8 feet long.  Prices were $20 
at both stores in North San Diego County.
