Actually there is a reactance change along length when a
line is mismatched. If there was no reactance change, there
would be no impedance transformation.
I can think of special situations that have exceptions, but
in the general case where a line of some certain
characteristic impedance is misterminated with a pure
resistance reactance changes along the length, peaking at
odd-1/8th wave intervals and crossing zero at any multiple
of 1/4 wl.
