Subject: Towers and "lowering property values"
Importance: High
I read the article on the Arizona battle for the radio tower and the classic line about "lowering property values" was of interest to me. You see, I have heard this line (or more properly, lie) for so long and it wasn't until I had received training and licensure as a real estate appraiser that I fully understood just how false that line is! In all my training there was never any mention of how ham radio antenna towers could lower property values!
If I may suggest, the nest time this lie comes up, have the attorney(s) representing the ham operator(s) and/or club(s) get an appraiser to testify to the "validity" of the claims of diminished property value. That should shoot a broadside into the whole argument that will sink it!
Respectfully submitted,
T. Kenneth Lewis, K3FMK
P. S. I am no longer working as an appraiser, but felt this little bit of information had to be given to someone who could make a difference! Good luck!
