[TowerTalk] Help in planning a new QTH

Larry,

I have a 75 foot tower with a C31XR and a 402CD 8 feet above that.  In an 80
foot tree I have a 3 element SteppIR.  In numerous A-B antenna tests with
various stations 90% of the time they say they can not tell the difference.
The other 10% is equally split between the two antennas.  If I do not get a
station on one antenna I switch to the other and half the time it makes a
difference, or maybe I my turn in the pileup has come up!!

The SteppIR does seem to be quieter antenna however the C31 is closer to
some power lines.

IMHO, go with the SteppIR, you will love it on 24MH and 18MH.  The C31 is
not worth the trouble trying to use it on those bands.

I have a SteppIR 4el on a 75ft crank-up where there was previously a C31XR
and I can tell you I have not lost anything. The C31XR played well except on
15 where the bandwidth was very narrow. Depending on your lot the SteppIR is
much less intrusive against a tree background(4el vs. 14-shiny aluminum vs.
green fiberglass). You also pick up the WARC bands and the 180º switch.
