You actually must have found a very poor situation for
installing the Inverted L.

Perhaps near a bunch of metal like uninsulated guy lines
stuck in the lossy dirt, next to a resonant tower with a
poor ground, or in the midst of a bunch of other conductive
vertical antennas and structures. You might not find
anything better given the particular situation you have. If
you are happy that's all that matters, but this certainly
doesn't mean the sloppers have gain, it does not mean anyone
else could ever repeat your random results, and it certainly
does not mean everyone else saying sloppers are the most
unpredictable choice of antennas are wrong.

Of all the antennas that could be installed, a slopper is
one of the most unpredictable and unreliable choices and can
never have significant gain over a simple omni-directional
system (like an Inverted L) that is working PROPERLY. If we
were rolling dice, the best bet for performance would be to
shunt feed the tower or use an Inverted L by a wide margin.
That's all everyone else has been saying.
