[TowerTalk] Rotor Selection Advice Wanted - Heavy Duty

This is not meant as a direct reply to any of the previous posts, but in
reading this thread it prompted me to share the following experience I had.

I have a F12 Magnum 240N 2-el 40-meter beam at 120ft rotated with a Yaesu
G-2800DXA. This fall the factory supplied pin bolt was sheared. We did
have some significant wind storms in the fall, but it's not clear which one
caused the damage. After the pin bolt sheared there was some slippage
between the mast and the remaining clamp assembly, but not so much as to
cause any further damage until I discovered the problem and replaced the pin
bolt.

I had thought it would be impossible for a pin bolt to shear except in
exceptional circumstances, but now I have a new appreciation for either the
torque forces up there or the weakness of bolts, HI.

The fact that G-2800DXA did not fail before the forces sheared the bolt is
impressive to me.

If you install the Yaesu G-2800DXA per the manufacture's instructions and
nothing is broken, it is impossible for the mast to slip.

I do not know where he comes up with that hearsay nonsense...

The Yaesu G2800DXA does not have any of these alleged problems...

I have MonstIR#1 - it has been up for 2 years...

Far longer than any other MonstIR!!!

I am about 1 mile from the Pacific Coast about 600' ASL with a clear shot at
every wind that comes from Japan.

Using a Yaesu G-2800DXA...NO SLIPPAGE on the rotor...

I chose the G-2800DXA because it had the best braking rating of all
rotors...

And it does not seem to have any problem whatsoever turning the array.

Rick,

As far as I'm aware, the 2800 has been proven time-and-again to be incapable
of holding a MonstIR in even a moderate wind. I suggest you avoid
needlessly repeating this mistake, and implement your prop-pitch solution
right from the start.
