They don't burn out so fast.
I found that the BA9s-A 28v AC/DC
Amber LED from superbrightleds.com gave a nice light, soft, and MUCH less
heat than the old traditional type bulbs.

I'm switching ALL my pilot light devices to led replacements."

Gordon, they are 1819s or 1820s.  However, another past post suggested 
using 28 volt LEDs.  I bought them and they work well. They fit directly 
in the original socket.  I am also using them for the meter lights in my 
Titan amps.  I don't have the supplier's name here at this time, because 
I'm away from home.  Maybe someone else can provide it.
