An interesting article in MRT for April 1, 2007 >

structures and downleads and the Ufer ground includes a photo  (Fig-4) showing lightning damage to a 
concrete tower pier due to lightning surges through the foundation.  It cautions against use of a 
Ufer ground consisting solely of the tower foundation.
