I don't think they sell cad-plated hardware anymore (since the 90s?) 
except for limited purposes (mil,aircraft).  It's been replaced by 
various zinc alloy and or chemical conversion coatings.

Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal, so I assume the goal is to reduce the 
amount in the environment.
