If you have any sort of automation, you want to make sure that there's 
no possible way that someone could have their arm sticking into it when 
it starts to move.  That typically means either it's a smooth tube that 
retracts inside itself or that you've got some sort of interlock/sensor 
system that's pretty hard to defeat and that "fails safe" (i.e. a sensor 
failure prevents automated movement)
