IF you go the EMT galvanized route, I don't think the little stuff will hold up. I've used 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" for short masts and they seem to hold up. the 1/2 and 3/4, and maybe even 1", don't have, at least to my thinking, enough strength to hold up to side pull. Check out the ARRL hand book or Antenna book for other suggestions.
