[TowerTalk] 10M phased verticals

Hello Bill!

Three years ago I attempted to construct a proper four square phasing
network using four 5/8 wavelength elements and 1/4 wave spacing (on a side)
for 10 meters. I installed 60 ground radials - 5/8 wavelength long (60 per
element). I could never get acceptable pattern performance.

This last summer I converted the 5/8 wavelength elements to 1/4 wavelength
using a traditional four square phasing system. Performance is as expected
with 25 dB of F/B.

We use this antenna exclusively for receiving. The 10 meter four square
pattern is similar to a Yagi antenna mounted at 50 feet above the ground.

73!

Subject: [TowerTalk] 10M phased verticals

Unfortunately my crankup is maxxed out with 15/20/40M yagis. I guess when
I put it up 6 years ago I thought the sunspots would never come back (I
read that in an article on the internet), so I didn't put up anything for
10M.... I've got 31 sq ft of yagis on a 30 sq ft rated tower....

I do not have XYL/neighbor approval or $$$ for a second tower, so for the
CQWWCW last weekend I put a ZeroFive 5/8 wavelength 10M vertical on a 6'
pole and set it up groundplane style with 24 down sloping radials off of
a Lance Johnson Engineering round radial plate. It worked very well, way
past my expectations. And it is the perfect XYL antenna - this morning
I took the antenna off of the pole, slid the radial plate to the ground
and it was gone!

Would it be worth putting 2,3 or 4 phased verticals like this on 10M? I
have had 40m and 80M 4-squares in the past and of course they were great.
There are commercial boxes available. Do the patterns hold up on 10M?

Thanks for any input !!!
