In response to Jim, K9YC, request for antenna anlyzers / software here is my 2 cents worth 

I cannot heap enough praise on the AIM4170 analyzer.  It is pricey, but quite likely the best investment I have made in ham radio accessories in my 53 years as a ham.  It will generate Smith charts, do SWR / return loss, TDR, etc.
