This may have been mentioned before. Buy 3 x identical digital ‘torpedo’ levels..cheap at sears etc.
They are aprx 8-10 inchs long..and are magnetic down one or both sides. They not only have the
normal bubble level and 45 deg bubble level, they also have the digital display, that reads in .1 deg
increments. They will also beep when it’s 90-45-180 deg if you want. Mine also has a lcd display, showing the
line wandering back and forth on either side of plumb.
Climb up to 1st set of guys and plop one on each of the 3 x legs. Then get your helpers on the ground to tweak
till it’s plumb. Use the loos gauge to dial in the correct tension. Then move up to next set of guys and repeat.
The same digital gauges work slick on freestanding tapered towers like trylons. Just plop em onto the sides
towards the top of the 1st section, aprx 6-8 feet above the grnd. Heck, they are even back lit,
so you can read em if it starts getting dark out. If you place them on the ceiling, the display will invert, so
you can still read it. It won’t be upside down. Typ $25.00 each. One is excellent...and 3 of em is
the ultimate ticket.
I forget what the taper angle is on a trylon, you can find that out real fast, BEFORE you suspend
it over the hole. Then it’s just a case of tweaking till all 3 levels read... “83.6 degs” etc.
