[TowerTalk] Recommendations for Purchasing a short 2 Element 40 Meter

I mentioned Force 12 a few days ago as a good antenna; have the 340N (on the
same boom as the Mag 620) at 120Ft; been up over 12 years now and it works
fine (331 countries on 40M). Live on top of a hill at 6800 ft, and winds
have been up to 74 mph (been lucky this year, had a few gusts to just over
60 mph in March), snow, driving rain, hail that ruined the roof, and more
than one lightning strike (two I know of). Only damage has been to the M2
R2800; one strike took out two of the four caps in the rotor (blew one to
smithereens, and split one in half - shorting it out).

Am sure the 240N is just as mechanically strong, and would be a great
choice. No doubt it is a lot "beefier" than the the Hy Gain or Cushcraft.
Had a Hy-Gain 402BA years ago in SD; wasn't up for too long before the boom
snapped in half, one of the elements and half the boom fell off and landed
on a Wilson 5 ele 20M beam below it (no damage to it).

it's
been great. Covers the whole 40-meter band with good SWR and gain. It's
good enough to have given me a 1st place USA finish in a CQ WW 40-meter
single-band category many years ago. Has lasted 10 years at 120ft without
needing any repair work.

If this is one of their linear loaded designs, I'd pass. I've installed
lots of 40M beams and I've never had anyone tell me that their LL F12
antenna was a great antenna. I was never impressed with their performance.

Cheers,
