[TowerTalk] Has anyone every put up a V-beam?

Yes, a number of them over the years. They do have nice gain and are simple
in concept.

However, a few points to remember:

- The gain is VERY narrow. A 4 wavelength long legs V Beam
probably has a 25 - 30 deg beamwidth and it VERY sharp on the drop offs and
side rejection is HUGE, so you will be loud to the target area but that's
it.

- Its harder than it seems to align the legs over 300+ feet with
any kind of trees.

- The impedance at the feed is complex. Easiest to feed it with
open wire line and use a tuner at the rig.

- The wire has to be high (like a yagi or dipole) in order to have
the gain at a good take off angle. Doing that for 100s of feet x 2 legs can
be difficult.

But if the challenges are known and can be executed, it's a fun antenna. A
STRONG player to the target area when done right.
