I agree.  I usually bring a pair up with me, but while climbing I believe dexterity is of utmost importance.  And unless one plans to do some chiselling or drilling, why would safety glasses be necessary?  They tend to get in the way and restrict vision, if not knocked or blown off.

Still, there is a LOT wrong in that photo.  QST should have done better.  Just because it was 'posed', 'contrived' or a 'photo-op' is no excuse.

How come no one noticed the lack of safety glasses, or climbing gloves
(you know the mitten with the rubber outside), including

rubber "bumps" or leather driving gloves, thin leather with a little red
bean on the tightening strap

How come the knot on the fall arrester is not tight, before the tie
wraps (huh?)

On the other hand, I was 14 a l-o-o-ng time ago. Back then this might
qualify as a "pinup"for the shack.
