Tim,

This is the first time I heard of a PollyRod Failure in mid span ! I know of one but it was struck by a tree mid span.
WOW I had my tower guyed with it and installed it on a number of other towers. A 6 year life span .
I bought mine with a group purchased with Tyler K3MM being point man .

And John, Yes there was a problem with the Rolls splitting 180 degrees . Roll lengths varied I seem to remember 300 ft ??? There was a great amount of energy in a coiled role. A ham at Franks W3LPL was injured ( not sure to what degree) unrolling a coil. There was a number of theories on why .... but PollyRod stepped up and replaced the damaged rolls...

One thing I know for sure the 3/8 rod makes great none conductive tomato stakes. ( I had one broken roll)

This is the first time that I have heard of an installed Polygon Rod
failure. I recall reading something about it fracturing on the reel,
perhaps when stored for a long time. I was also unaware of the short UV
life. Great information Tim. I believe that there is a 5000 foot minimum
order so unless WD8NPL has a lot of towers or many friends needing this
material it is still a pretty expensive option. I use Phillystran and I
have seen no deterioration after decades of use.

Hello Steve

At one time I used polygon rod on all my towers. After having a polygon rod
break (mid span) I have started the conversion process to Phillystran for
all of my tower guys.

Even under the best of circumstances Polygon rod must be replaced every 6 to
8 years due to the fragmenting of the fiberglass (the UV model).

Wanted to pick some of the experts' brains on the use of fiberglass rod for
guys such as strength and durability/lifespan. I am considering using this
for a tower project. Was originally looking at phillystran but for the heavy
duty stuff it is price prohibitive here. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc on
what to look for or ask about appreciated.
