Other related things to check:

- A female UHF connector, barrel, etc. where the center conductor has expanded 
through use.

- Are you powering a remote antenna switch through the same coax ? A loose 
connection in the feedline would explain the static. Try switching to the 
unpowered position and see if the static goes away.
