[TowerTalk] TX 4SQ Bandwidth - 80 and 160

Tony,

My 4 SQ is like Tim’s old design modified Hy-Gain Hi=towers with aluminum stingers starting @ 2” and ending in 3/8 “

I lay each tower down ( hinged base) and tune the standing antenna at the base for 3.510 KHZ.

There are no feedline attached to the comtek box or the base of the other antennas .

Phase line are cut to 3.650 MHZ when installed and measured dump power @ 3.660. is 5 watts on the Bird

Dump powers A band ends 3.500 MHZ and 3.800 MHZ are about equal 110 watts on a 250 watt slug.

Antennas have 112 ¼ wave radials each

Wayne , W3EA

PS I too ka lightning strike 7/17/19 and instaslled new feedlines and a DX.Eng 4 sq box …. I need to measure the dump power but the SWR at the edges are about the same

Hi Tim
When you tune the individual elements what do you do with the other
elements? Do you ground or open the feedlines?
When you tune the elements I am assuming you are measuring right at the feed
point and not through the feedline from the Comtek box, correct?

Tnx

Hello Paul:

With my 80 meter four squares the VSWR at the TX port of the Comtek Systems
controller never is above 1.4 to 1 from 3.5 to 3.9 MHz.

My elements are tuned for minimum dump power at 3.650 MHz. To accomplish the
3.650 MHz center, the individual elements are tuned to 3.505 MHz.

My dump power at 3.650 is -26 dB down from the input power, which is less
than 4 watts with 1500 watts from the amplifier. At 3.8 and 3.5 MHz there is
about 110 watts in the dump load.

My 4 square elements are made of aluminum 60 ft towers starting at 22 inch
faces and tapering to 11 inches with a 10 ft "stinger" of 2 " aluminum
tubing.

OK, so this is marginally-related to towers...

Anyone with 4SQ TX arrays, how much 2:1 SWR bandwidth do you get in the real
world?

Thanks, Paul
