Big curtain arrays are standard things in the SW broadcast business. 
It's not unusual to see a 24 dBi gain  - That's *way* more than you're 
ever going to see from any HF antenna on top of a tower.

Essentially they are giant arrays of 2 element yagis.


They tend to be single band (although nothing stops you from putting 
multiple dipoles in front of the reflectors.

The TCI log periodics in their "simpler" forms are 16 dBi
