Put all options on paper and allow her to be part of the decision process. That might stave off future grief.

If local ground conductivity is average or above, I would opt for a vertical dipole hung from a tree branch or a quarter wave vertical with two coil loaded radials near ground level.

Howdy, TowerTalkians --

    I've got a conundrum. I need to put up an 80M antenna where the wife doesn't like wires in the air (there goes a wire dipole) and is averse to a vertical with radials. There are several tall trees that would be nifty but again no horizontal dipole.
     I figured maybe a vertical dipole (with traps) might do it but I've got no idea how it'll work. I guess if it radiates I should consider it a win - hi.
