Before you do anything, find and study W3LPL's talks to Contest 
University on the topic of RX antenna systems. He lists a half-dozen or 
more very different types, discussing their strengths and weaknesses. 
Some are much more tolerant of surrounding objects (other conductors, 
trees, etc.) than others; some won't work in that situation.

Search the internet for it. There is both a speech recording and slides.
