The upper limit switch is located at the left side of the drum. While the
tower is going UP, you should be able to simply manually activate the
spring loaded upper limit switch by hand...and the tower should stop
raising. That would at least be a simple test, to see if the upper limit
switch actually functions..and opens off the circuit. It's easy to get at
the upper limit switch, since it's only a few feet above ground.

In normal operation, one could raise the tower till the upper limit switch
has not quite engaged. IE: tower not quite extended to full height. Then
you are not relying on the upper limit switch to shut things down.

I, too, have the remote box. It was never used by the previous owner. I
can envision the wind blowing, and cables being inside the tower, being
chopped off.

Folks have said to me.....why not tie off cables at each coax standoff ?
Then when fully nested, none of the cables are lying on the ground. Dumb
idea, and also dangerous. Anything slightly less than fully extended, and
small loops will form at each standoff. Only one of the 5 x loops needs to
be blown through the tower, and you will have a bad day. The cables will
be chopped off, whether raising or lowering.
