[TowerTalk] Long Term Connector Reliability

One example:  As I've done with other antennas and coax runs over the years, I wrapped the PL-259 connector linking the run of RG-213 to my 4-el yagi with "Coax-Seal" (a moldable, probably thiokol or similar material based tape) when I put it up on my tower in 1992.  When I moved in 2014 and disassembled everything when I took it down, other than the fact that it was a pain to remove the long-weathered wrap from the connector, the internal connection to the silver plated PL-259 looked just as shiny and new as it did the day I installed it.  On the other hand, all the other the Krylon clear painted hardware on the beam showed signs of corrosion.  That QTH was about 15-miles from my present location in Southern Calif ... probably a similar climate to what you experience in Na'ale.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Long Term Connector Reliability

After over 25 years I've found some problems with connector conductivity at
my 4X4NJ station.  I would be interested in knowing about experience that
any of you may have with reliable connector conductivity for  similar time
periods. This is primarily with PL-259, N-Type, and hard-line  connectors
and associated adapters.  In particular, any experience with the following
would be helpful:

1.      Nothing done to ensure conductivity

2.      Silicon grease

3.      Penetrox (or similar)

4.      "STUF" dielectric water proofing filler

I'm interested mainly in actual experience that you have had after many
years of using any of the above, or other, methods.  Please note that I'm
not seeking methods for waterproofing - just in keeping the connection
between mating surfaces highly conductive assuming waterproofing is good.
