I'm in the camp with generics.
I started using UHFs in 1956, including Amphenol AND WWII surplus, random finds, and even some that came on CB antennae, running up to 1500W, not on the RG-58 CB cables, up to 10m.
I've never had an RF problem but have had one or two thread issues.
Yes, good silver is good but $10 puts them in the luxury category, for those with pride/money.
The one issue has been the hard soldering of some of the generics, due to the type of plating. Not an issue with crimps.
I like crimps but think the back is too short to assure good resistance to flex.
I know bad things can happen and would like to hear some stories.
