Someone was asking about availability of USB-serial adapters, to create
an extra serial port on a laptop.

CPC and Farnell (both part of the same group) have the same model in
their most recent flyers, at the same price of £19.79 + VAT and
carriage. In both cases these may not be permanent catalogue items.

The description is the same in both flyers. "This converter allows you
to use legacy serial products such as cameras, printers, modems and PDAs
on a USB equipped PC... USB bus powered... USB 1.1 compliant... Supports
Win 98/98SE/2000... Min system reqt: USB port, 16MB RAM... Dimensions
(HxWxD) 25 x 63 x 73mm... Contents: USB Adaptor, 25 to 9 way adaptor,
USB cable and software on CD"

The picture looks like a small pod with a 25 pin serial connector on one
end and a USB connector on the other. You can see the picture on CPC's
shaky new site: www.cpc.co.uk - search for order code CS0749601.

It's not on the Farnell site, but the order code is 4183526

Further contact and ordering details for CPC and Farnell are on the 'In
Practice' pages.

If anyone gives it a try with their contest software, please report back
here!
