[UK-CONTEST] Contest Calendar or Not

Absolutely agreed, Clive. This is typical of why I feel so angry and
frustrated at the lack of progress and change.

How can HFCC "hear from others who are not past winners" if they don't ask
them specifically to contribute? Is the intention to keep hanging on in case
someone does comment before making a change.

And again, "we would want to consider whether this really made sense in
propagation terms." I am sorry but I just can't buy this.

Firstly HFCC know that Clive and myself are long time successful
participants in this and therefore by definition have an expert knowledge of
propagation. Secondly there are at least two current members of HFCC who
also have similar credentials. Given that baseline, it is reasonable to
expect HFCC to come up with a reasonable slight change, not major change, in
the rules.

Secondly, "was likely to result in higher G entry." Dave, you know as well
as I do that no change in these particular contests will ever increase
entries. It might however stem the flow of operators leaving the event.
Steve G0CKP commented, as other did similarly in LF Cumulatives, that there
was nothing to work after one and half hours. For me, the contest ended
after three of the fours hours, yet I class my antenna above average. So
what do you expect those with average or less than average antennas to do.
Based on Clive's proposals I might just consider continuing my support of
the event though I accept cannot beat him. Based on the same old rules,
well, even before this discussion, I was re-considering my options.

I accept my wording at times is OTT but as yet I have not seen or heard much
valid evidence of HFCC actions.

My apologies to those caught up in the middle of this. I thought the
Reflector was set up to exchange views which would help to move contesting
forward and I try to contribute on this basis.

I re-iterate that my anger is based on no movement in ANY rules despite
plenty of discussion/evidence/information placed before HFCC, yet changes
have been made to entry submission without discussion. My inference still is
that HFCC have no desire to take on board discussions held on this Reflector
despite some very strong evidence to make changes.

Dave Lawley Said
"So although he and Clive have suggested starting the
topband contests an hour earlier, we would also want to hear from
others who are not past winners, and we would want to consider
whether this really made sense in propagation terms, and was
likely to result in higher G entry. "

I have suggested in my recent 160m entry that the 160m Contests should
start 2 hours earlier. My reason is that the UK is ahead in time of the vast
majority of EU and expecting UA etc to be up on the air working a minor
160m contest at what would be 2-3am is totally unreasonable and hardly
conducive to increasing activity. 73 Clive GM3POI
