Derek,
I don't know the answer to your question but, given that the population
of France is about the same as the UK and judging by the number of pages
needed in the old US Callbooks to list all French amateurs compared to all
UK amateurs, I would say the figure must be around a third of the UK take-up.
With the arrival of the Foundation Licence, that figure must be changing
in our favour.
Not very scientific but a starting point!
