[UK-CONTEST] Not a pretty picture

As an ex-G, I subscribe to this reflector as part of my keep in touch with
home approach. I have to say fellers; it doesn't make very good reading
much of the time and certainly paints a less than pretty picture of our
mutual passion for contesting.
If I wasn't already a die hard contester but was instead cultivating an
early interest in the sport and I happened to gain a large part of my early
acquaintance with the spirit of contesting from this reflector, I would
surely turn away and do something else.
When I have listened to ex-Prime Minister's publicly attacking their own
successors I have always thought it painted a particularly ugly picture,
which did little but diminish the stature of the ex-P.M. substantially. It
seems to me that when the time comes to leave the stage it is better to do
so with dignity.
The HFCC like any other committee, cannot please all of the people all of
the time. They will be successful if they advance the interests of the
majority. Time will tell whether they manage to achieve this. Those who
feel they can do better can always put themselves forward for nomination.
Like it or not this reflector is a public showcase for UK contesting. I
think it would be a much better one if destructive postings were absented.
There is still the opportunity for individuals to chastise others. Should
they feel it warranted, they can always do it directly and privately.
I feel sure that by maintaining discussion on this reflector at a more
constructive level we would project our passion for contesting in a much
better light.
