The IARU Contest was used almost entirely
for "OJ Hunting" in support of the WRTC activities.
Some 219 OJ QSOs were worked (162 on CW and 57 on SSB)
across the bands. All 52 OJ's were worked on "CW" and on "Mixed"
but not on "SSB". The operating by the OJ's was a marvel to observe.
Slick QSOs, full-calls first time and no time-wasting. Great stuff.
Even with the various odd 'bits of intelligence' that were to
be gleaned from the Cluster, we still had no real idea on who was
who by the end of the event (apart from the odd team that was
immediately 100% discernible by their 'accent' on SSB : eg the G-team,
the JA-team and the ZS-team!).
Oh yes, and the IARU Contest itself : some 515 QSO's were made
in total. The non-OJ QSOs were made while filling in time looking
for the OJ's! QRV for about 18 hours, on and off.
