Quick and dirty report.

Ten days before BERU, White Van Man  decided to modify the rear 
of my car. Went for repair last Monday, due back Thursday( 
gulp), didn't get back until 15:45 Friday. 

Serious food shortage entailed immediate visit to Supermarket. 
On return, house feels cool. Check boiler it's out. It's still 
out Sunday PM, no chance of action until Monday. Temperature 
inside is about 15C, and no hot water.

Drink copiously of black coffee to keep warm and awake. Runs 
interrupted by consequential action! ( pun not intended!) 
Finally fall asleep with finger on F1 and call CQ for what seems 
an eternity but was probably only about 10 seconds. If I CQd in 
*your* face I'm sorry. 


I run the amplifier into the doublet for the first time on 
21Mhz. It cashes the previously bullet proof network In 
Writelog, and sets off the intruder alarm. Mad panic ensues to 
call the monitoring station to check if the boys in blue were on 
their way. Fortunately they were not 
 
  
What else can go wrong. The doublet can snap again for the third 
time in 5 weeks after 18 months with zero problems, that's what. 
70mph gusts are now the norm here. SO2R now scrapped two hours 
into the contest. Substitute SO1R with agility, even moving 
plain old VE3s about.

And it would be OK on any other day ( with apologies to the 
Police)
