[UK-CONTEST] 21/28

Rob, I think you are absolutely, totally 100% correct.

This was discussed at length last year and HFCC took no notice, so
don't expect much action this time! There is considerable interest from
M3s in contests. More than I would have dared hope for. We should
be doing anything and everything to retain their interest. It really doesn't
make sense to have to tell UK stations that you can't work them in the
21/28MHz and Commonwealth Contests.

Unfortunately having spent a lot of time working on my antennas just
recently I don't anticipate spending much time on the SSB leg, though
I hope to give the system a whirl for the CW leg. (Again it would make
so much sense to have a combined CW/SSB event for this and for Field
Days.)

My advice would be:

WORK ANYBODY WHO CALLS, GIVE THEM A SERIAL NUMBER
AND LOG THEM.

The main point is that you don't claim the points, so just deduct all UK QSO
points and multipliers from your final score. (just like a dupe)

That really does fulfill both sides of the argument. (I know others on the
reflector
are aware but some may not be, but just to clarify my position. I served 15
years
as a member of RSGB HFCC and chaired it for 6 years. My advice is my own
opinion but based on the the experience gained during that time.

People,
I know this probably comes up every year with the up & coming 21/28
contest + I also remember seeing some traffic regarding the state of the
contest as the Solar Cycle declines.
Awaiting BT's RFI team to "sort out" some lines & equipment in the
neighbourhood, I've volunteered to be QRT until it's sorted so will be
operating /P.. ( Plus it's a good way of entering the restricted section
anyway). Problem with /P is of course you are going to be heard very well
throughout the UK on both bands & I can more or less guarantee there will
be lots of UK callers which of course I can't work ( or can "quickly" rather
than debate it ).
Point being..

1) It would be great to work them for points as this has never been a rate
contest especially for the restricted entrants

2) In years of decline, instead of losing the date to another contest or
seeing the participants just not bother, it *could* become the AFS or WAB
of 10/15M so to speak.

3) Once you've added the extra support of more casual UK ops, I'm sure
they'll still be there when things get better.

I'm not saying lets all get out on the hills, just that by adding the UK,
you add a little more fun & participation to the contest. Not because it
will help me. Being /P will help me anyway since I can pretty much hear
which freqs the UK guys are calling "test" on so can move myself in the
clear. Pressing the CQ button for hours on end is not particularly
interesting unless there's participants to reply.

I don't think I'm on my own here.. am I?

Regards
