Erm. Isn't this exactly what we have in SSB Field Day this coming weekend?

At the time the rules changed a couple of years back I made the point that
the explicit allowing of packet assistance in the restricted section would
be discouraging to smaller groups (like ours) who had no packet radio
equipment. With a noticable emphasis these days on encouraging new blood
into contesting, a 100W section that only allows one transmitter, one
receiver, one single element antenna and NO packet access would be useful in
encouraging more small groups to participate. Notice I prefer not to allow a
2nd receiver.

This is not sour grapes. Last year we came 2nd with no packet access
(restricted section). This year we have it because we've been forced down
that route. A change of rules in line with my suggestions would mean a lot
of unique technology we've developed would be made redundant, but I believe
it would level the playing field more and encourage newcomers. It'll be
interesting see what difference packet assistance makes. Watch out GRS/SOA!
