Hi all,
For me, this contest started slow, and ended very fast ! I was not getting
good vibes at all to start with on 20m - no DLs at all, struggling with
SP's, I's, OK's etc. but things did improve with time. Nice, but a bit
strange to work 3B9 and VU. Whilst tuning I came across the 3B9's suffix,
which brought up the call in Super Check Partial, and I did a double take at
the next CQ when I found it was actually right :-)
Arrival on 80m was about 1838 - historically I've always really struggled on
80 apart from working the G's, and so left it till quite late as 40m was,
unusually for me, both bearable and productive ! Judging by other entries,
I could have shot myself in the foot a bit and missed a few QSOs on 80. The
last 10 rate at the end was quite impressive though.
I was also pleased to hear so many UK guys on, including some M3's. I
wouldn't have guessed the Sprint format would be ideal to pull in casual
entrants. Maybe it's the fact that you're left with a frequency to call
on, and then a single QRZ will often result in a new QSO, that stations I
didn't recognise as contesters were getting stuck in. There's no sitting on
the sidelines in the Sprint !
Dave BUO - speaking of the boosted UK entry, is there any chance of
compiling some extra stat's like in the EUHFC, and pooling country scores in
the results, just for fun ?
For the first time I perservered with the different order of the exchanges
whether I was calling CQ, or answering a CQ. I got into the swing of it
eventually, although will admit to needing a Post-It note as a prompt to
start with.
Had a quick chat with Stavros M0BBB operating at G6UW after the contest, and
also DL7FER, straight back to contesting after being part of ST0RY !
20m - 73 Q
40m - 65 Q
80m - 28 Q
Total - 166 Q
Thanks for the QSOs, and also to those who took some time off and made my
score look reasonable. It'll be a different story next weekend I'll guess.
:-)
TS850 + A1000 / C3SS @ 9m, HF6V ground mounted (most useful for working
Clive POI on 40), Windom @ 8m.
CU for CW next weekend.
