Hi all,
Just a quick note to publicly thank all of the people who took the time
to respond to my question about cluster access via GPRS. I think I
answered everyone individually, but here is a general note of thanks
just in case I missed anyone.
I made some measurements myself last weekend and I estimate that staying
connected for the average HF contest will cost 3UKP with Orange. As
most of my contesting is VHF+, I will be able to filter most spots
and save some money on top of that.
After noting the RF problems that some have commented on I have been
researching PCMCIA GPRS modems and these seem to be availale for around
50UKP, which is OK to me. I have also been suprised about the falling
cost of wireless networking, so I hope that Santa will be providing me
with some wifi toys to enable spot sharing on VHF FD. I know this was
the subject of some discussion on this reflector a few weeks ago, so I
can keep anyone interested up to date with progress of the list.
Thanks again for the info and I look forward to working you on the bands
soon.
Seasons greetings!
