I'm all for that - I was simply promoting the concept of a new
European Union contest and leaving some of the details for later.

Callsign call areas are not intended to represent geographic
regions - they are an attempt, however crude, to keep
multipliers or bonuses manageable and equitable. They are
tried and tested in SAC.

That's a good summary of the situation right now. Chances are
the opportunity won't last for long - as ownership of the proposed
contest is up for grabs. Which would you prefer - the RSGB
European Open or the (name your country/society) European Open?
BTW, I see from RadCom that the date I suggested (first weekend in
October 2004) clashes with the IOTA/HF convention.
