[UK-CONTEST] CABRILLO (again!)

Paul and the group,

As the person processing the electronically delivered IOTA logs into a
standard format, I can confirm Don's position that the RSGB format did not
figure very high in the formats of the logs that were received. There were
indeed some .ALL format logs, with about six subtly different layouts I
might add, but again these did not make up the majority of the logs
received.

I, for one, think that standardisation on Cabrillo is a good idea. The RSGB
format has too many inconsistencies and seems to be open to interpretation
by programmes that generate that format - for example in IOTA an new island
is a multiplier, but the RSGB format does not allow enough room for an IOTA
reference in its Multiplier field! Equally, SD is only one of dozens of
logging programmes out available and Don is correct in saying that very few
of them support the RSGB format. As well as Don's JPEG example, Excel
spreadsheets and Word documents were received as entries.

To help those people who cannot get a Cabrillo output format from their
favourite logging programme, I am currently working on a variant of my
LogMangler which will create Cabrillo output files in the correct format for
all the log formats that I currently process, which after IOTA is a pretty
diverse range. Look for this free software later in the year from either the
HFCC web site or from my site.

In the meantime, as adjudicator of AFS CW, I can confirm that I will be
accepting all formats and if necessary use my software to convert them into
a unified format for electronic checking.
