After my second 100W and vertical contest from a 9M2 island I agree that
something needs to be done to encourage 100W and vertical DXpeditions.
Paul's idea of additional points sounds interesting.
Observations from over here:
1. The contest is very popular in Europe and its great seeing some many EU
IOTAs being activated. Support in Asia especially amongst the JAs seemed
low. How about additional points for IOTA contacts outside your own
continent?
2. There is more activity on SSB. I operated 24 hours CW and made less than
500 Qs! Maybe I just need to accept that SSB is more popular (especially
among the southern EU IOTA fans) and start doing more mixed mode contesting.
3. 100W doesn't cut it. My station fits into a suitcase and weighs only 20
KG. This means that I can operate from any of the 9M2 IOTAs. Taking an
amplifier will restrict the number of islands that I can easily go to on my
own. Additional points for 100W DXpeditions would help this.
I was pleased to work most of the UK multi-op IOTA groups in the contest who
had great signals here on 21MHz when the band opened (briefly).
