Cabrillo was introduced originally to support the major HF
American contests such as ARRL DX, CQWW, CQ WPX and ARRL 10.
In those events, only one piece of information (other than
RST) is exchanged and that's all that was provided for in
Cabrillo's original QSO record format.

Most RSGB contests require two or more pieces of information
to be exchanged - for example, serial and district code, and
that's why there has to be a new Cabrillo QSO format to
correspond.

The HFCC is taking the lead, and it's very likely that the
Cabrillo QSO record layout for RSGB contests will be adopted
by other contest organisers with similar needs.

The HFCC advised me of the proposed layout, and SD already
supports Cabrillo for RSGB contests.

Some RSGB contests, such as NFD, use the original Cabrillo
format - supported by all contest loggers. All that's needed
is to edit the Cabrillo summary records, but that's probably
easier than having to submit a separate summary sheet file.

For good or bad, Cabrillo has a momentum that is unstoppable.
If you want your contest logger to support the new Cabrillo
formats, you should persuade the author to do what's needed
or else you'll have to edit your own logs. The new format
is intended to benefit everyone, but it may mean a bit more
work initially.
