[UK-CONTEST] 10 MINUTE RULE

Hi Don,

The rules don't say there's a time limit on "operating modes", so don't you
accomplish your swap by simply turning the RUN stn into the MULT, and vice
versa? As you haven't touched the band select on either radio, I'm
inclined to say this counts for 'nil points' on the bandchanges (but I
think, to play safe, I'd not do this until after 10 minutes had elapsed from
the most recent band change on either stn!). There is a further argument if
you change both radios (maybe you want to maintain running on the original
RUN stn because of superior equipment?) - it is not a *band change*, merely
a change of the *equipment used* on each band.

If you disagree with the above, you could change over in 10 minutes:
assuming you are more than 10mins past the first QSO on the run station,
change bands and run on 21MHz, but don't use the mult stn for the next
10mins. Then start the mult stn on 14MHz.

Why did I say, "... don't use the mult stn ..."? - Well, how else do you
interpret this? ....

'Exception: One-and only one-other band may be used during any 10-minute
period if-and only if-the station worked is a new multiplier.'

Taken literally, it means that you must leave a 10min gap between MULT QSO's
on different bands!!? Let's say your MULT stn has been on 80m for hours.
You worked a new mult at 05:51:00, then decided to change to 40m, where you
worked another new mult at 06:00:00. So now you have mult QSO's on two
different bands within 10mins, and you've contravened the rule! Is that how
it works? :-(

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] 10 MINUTE RULE

Sorry to use bandwidth, but I'm looking for advice. I am not sure how to
interpret the 10 minute rule in CQWW (Multi-single). We came across this
last time, and it is still unresolved in my mind.

In the Multi-Single section of CQWW, please consider the following.

Run station on 14 Mhz
Mult station on 21 Mhz (working mults only)

The operators decide that they want to RUN on 21, and MULT-SEARCH on 14
(i.e. reverse the roles of the two stations). How many band changes (if any)
is this, against the 10 minute rule ?

If 0, that's fine.

If two, then how do we handle this - do we have to take 20 minutes to
reverse the roles of each station - e.g. "run" to 7MHz, wait 10, mult to 14
MHz, wait 10, "run" to 21 MHz

Thanks and 73

Don, G3BJ
