Managed to operate for a few hours in this interesting event. Propagation has been mentioned. I also noticed that 10m phenomenon, when you hear a signal, so weak that it takes 2 minutes of straining to work out their callsign, so you call, and he comes back first time! Very strange, but I have noticed this many times before, on 10m in the late afternoon. It's almost like 144MHz. Of course you have to make sure you've been catching and predicting the serial number beforehand, 'cos there's no way you'll get it when he sends it!
I worked 74 stations between attending a wedding and reception, Christmas shopping and various other errands.
