Have used both the SEC (Samlex)1223 and the Alinco DM-330MVT switched mode
power supplies, Both have been excellent with no noise problems. I have used
them both in the UK and USA.
I actually think the SEC is probably the better unit for carrying around in
luggage etc, because it is smaller, lighter and simpler in design an on/off
switch and a mains lead , also access to the link to swop 240/100v is very
quick and easilly accessable (simple remove cover 2 min job). The power
rating is lower on the SEC but I had no problem running an FT847 in the USA
on 110v. The other major advantage is it is cheaper, not sure of the best
price in the UK but I got mine from the HRO for $70 or less a few years ago.
The Alinco has variable Voltage output, Voltage and current meters and also
variable switching frequency in case you do incounter any noise problems, I
have not had to use this feature.

Subject: [UK-CONTEST] What switched mode 13.8V PSU?
I am looking for some recommendations on a 13.8V switched mode PSU for
operating portable and holidays with my K2.
I have seen several on the market from:
Astron
Watson
SEC
Diamond.
Any thoughts? Or other makes I should consider?
I guess a multi input voltage unit 115/230 or similar would be more flexible
than a 230 only
Also I have heard reports that some switched mode PSUs can suffer problems
when connected to a generator that runs out of fuel and the waveform
lengthens from the std 50Hz resulting in PSU failure. Does anyone have any
inputs on this or should I just heave along the bigger heavier linear
supply?
