Hi There,
Here is a brief report from GM6NX which was operated from the premises of Stirling & District ARS by GM0CLN and MM0CCC.
First of all the usual stuff......
Callsign : GM6NX
Equipment : Dipole (centre @ 50ft ends @ 20ft), FT1000MP, Amp
Logging : NA in CQ WPX Mode (worked like a dream)
Club Name: GMDX Group
Valid QSOs : 202
QSO Points : 2020
Not a bad contest and 5 QSOs better than the GM6NX entry last year from the same QTH. However, I think the general consensus is that conditions were, on the whole, poorer than in 2003. Still definitely an uphill struggle from here in the more northern UK latitudes! Our hourly totals were....
14-15 : 52
15-16 : 61
16-17 : 47
17-18 : 42
We're not quite sure what happened near the end, since usually the last two hours are better from GM! Don't know what the cause was but I see that the K-index was 4 later in the day yesterday so that maybe had some effect. Noise levels were not too bad throughout other than a few spells of S9 from static rain. Fortunately we could still work most people over the static noise once inter-G propagation improved in the latter part of the event. However there will be a few who think they are in the GM6NX log but aren't! 3 or 4 stations who called us did not wait for confirmation of all details and, as we had missed some info (usually their serial number) due to the noise or some QRM, they were removed from the log. Like many others we heard a few weak HA's doing their own thing and we were pleased to work some non-UK stations from 5B4, 9A, DL, I, LY, ON, PA, RN3 and YU.
A fun event once more. It's just a pity we got soaked in the rain winding the GM6NX tower back down afterwards! Thanks to those who called. GM6NX looks forward to working you all again in the SSB leg next Saturday.
Regards
Colin Smith (GM0CLN)
P.S. GMDX Members : Please remember to send me your log ASAP so that it can be submitted as part of a GMDX entry.
