[UK-CONTEST] Mains surge protection

Hi all

There seem to be any number of mains surge protection outlets on the market. With miles of overhead mains and telephone cables round here it could be a wise addition to the shack, both for the pc and for the radio gear.

Question is - are they any good ? Do they all work on the same principal or are some cheap and nasty and not worth bothering with ?
