I reflect the experience of MM0CCC, it is hard going with lousy
antennas in a lousy QTH especially when running in my case 5W... But
persistence paid off:

Valid QSOs: 143
Countries: 30
States: 0.....
QSO points 679
Claimed score 20,370
Operating hours 17

Rig Elecraft K2, 5W
Antenna 30ft vertical (modified Butternut HF2V)

Several times I had the frustration while calling and getting nowhere
of the station coming back with 'G3YMC ??' then when I send CFM he
changes it into something totally different before giving up. This
even happened with W3BGN, a very close getaway!

Conditions seemed reasonable but apart from a short time on Saturday
morning the USA were never strong. As commented, there did not seem
that much serious support for the contest in the UK. A personal
satisfaction was beating my 2003 countries worked total in a single
weekend - the whole of last year I only managed 24 countries on top
band and that included last year's CQ160. But 30 countries is peanuts
on the band these days.
